Tips for Remodeling Small Bathroom

If you have a small bathroom in your home, it can prove difficult figuring out how to remodel it. Replacing the shower and sink are a given, but with such a small space, are there other ways to change how it looks and functions? There are actually more ways to remodel a small bathroom than you might imagine and the following tips and guidelines will help guide you through the remodeling process.

Make a Plan

Every remodeling project, big or small, starts with a plan. Walk into your bathroom and makes notes of any changes you can envision making. Tis includes replacing fixtures like the faucet, showerhead or lighting fixtures. Maybe you want to paint the cabinetry or drawers, change the window treatment, or replace hardware like the knobs and pulls of the bathroom. If the mirror is looking outdated, there are ways to update that as well. Your budget should also be considered when you’re thinking about what changes to make to your bathroom. If you’re remodeling large things or moving around the layout of the bathroom, your plan will include a drawing with proper dimensions to be sure everything fits.

Take Measurements

Measurements are key and possibly the most important thing about remodeling your small bathroom. If you want to replace the shower or pull out the tub to create more space with a stand-alone shower or get a new toilet, you need to know what dimensions you’re working with. A small bathroom has very limited space for the necessary items so measuring every aspect of your bathroom is vital.

Remove Your Bathtub

If you have a small bathroom and the tub never gets any use, get rid of it. You don’t need more than a small shower stall if it is a guest bathroom and nobody ever uses the bathtub. A shower stall is a good idea even if people don’t typically shower in this room, but the tub isn’t mandatory. Bathtubs are big and bulky and not only take up a lot of space, but make the bathroom appear smaller. Just with removing it and sticking with a shower stall, your bathroom will suddenly open up.

Upgrade Fixtures and Hardware

To remodel a small bathroom where it looks new without doing heavy duty remodeling projects, you can replace fixtures and hardware. Hardware is easy to replace on your own, will take less than a day, and just uses a screwdriver. By choosing different hardware in your bathroom, it makes an immediate difference in how your bathroom looks. Your fixtures, such as lighting, faucets, and showerheads, can also be replaced inexpensively and easily.

Add Some Color

Another remodeling project in your bathroom that will be easy to do is paint the walls or update the wallpapering. Painting your bathroom walls transforms it into an entirely new room! Paint is preferred because busy patterned wallpaper designs will instantly shrink the appearance of your bathroom. Choose light paint colors such as cream, off-white, light gray or pastel colors.
