How to Remodel your Kitchen on a Budget

How to Remodel your Kitchen on a Budget

The choice to remodel your kitchen may be just to have a new space or replace old appliances and hardware, but it also improves your home’s value! Even on a budget, you can make changes to your kitchen that will make a big impact on the value of your home. Changing things as simple as replacing some of your smaller appliances, replacing hardware and painting cabinets transform your kitchen into a brand new space, and it is essential you enjoy your kitchen as it is the most used room of your home.

Set Your Priorities

-

First you should decide what your priorities are. When remodeling any room of your home on a budget you will have to decide what is most important and that you need to get done before deciding what else you can afford to change, update, or replace in your kitchen. You have a wide range of things to choose from including replacing fixtures and hardware, to painting, replacing floors, getting new appliances, and many other small and large renovations for your kitchen. For example if you know you want a new refrigerator, that is a big purchase so you should get that first and then decide what else you’re willing to sacrifice for it, or what you still have money in your remodeling budget for.

Have Realistic Expectations

When remodeling your kitchen on a budget and making the budget itself, be realistic about what you expect. If your budget is $1,000 you’re limited to replacing hardware and painting cabinets or updating the lighting fixtures. Replacing appliances aside from your microwave isn’t going to be an option. Keep that in mind when setting your budget. If there are more expensive things like new countertops you definitely want, you may need to stretch your budget a little more, but you can still choose an inexpensive alternative that looks amazing in your kitchen.

Shop Wisely

When it comes time to do your shopping or your kitchen remodeling, shop smartly and choose clearance items. If you can wait until the next holiday weekend, you will get sales up to 75% off on many of the items you’re looking for, ranging from appliances to countertop materials. If you’re changing things like fixtures or hardware, check the clearance shelves at your nearby hardware or home improvement store. Most of them have a clearance section and you find great deals there. Also, don’t be afraid to buy used items. Many people will put out ads getting rid of their hardware, fixtures, or materials for kitchen remodeling simply because they ordered them in excess and didn’t end up using everything. Many times these items are practically brand new and sometimes in their original packaging.
