About Remodeling Your Bedroom Closet

Whether you have a small bedroom closet or a nice walk-in with a lot of space, there are plenty of remodeling projects you can do. With a few organizational supplies and a creative imagination, you will be able to transform an ordinary closet into one that looks custom-made with built-in shelving and enough room for all of your clothes, scarves, shoes, and even other jewelry and accessories. The following tips will help you upgrade your bedroom closet with easy remodeling projects.

Empty the Closet

Start your remodeling project by first emptying everything out. This also gives you a chance to clean and organize your things as well as getting rid of anything you don’t use anymore. Start a pile of things to keep and another pile of things to donate or get rid of. You will also want to remove the door by unscrewing the hinges to make it easier to get in and out of the closet. Depending on what types of remodeling you’re doing, you may also need to remove any other hardware, fixtures, or shelving units in the closet. Try to remove anything that isn’t built-in or nailed down to make it easier to assess what you have to work with.

Take Measurements

Next, you will need to take measurements. The next step involves working on a layout, but to do that efficiently you will need proper dimensions. With your measuring tape, get the height, length, and width of your closet. You should also measure anything built-in to account that in your drawing, such as where the closet rod or shelving hands and the approximate size.

Choose a Layout

Next you will be deciding what remodeling to do in your closet. If you plan to create custom-made shelves or add other shelving units, now is the time to make a drawing of your closet, including dimensions and decide what to include. When planning your closet, take your belongings into consideration. DO you have a lot of belts to store? Do you want your handbags to be hidden or on display? Do you have sufficient space for winter coats? These are important questions to ask when deciding on your layout.

Remodel Your Closet

Now that you have a pan, you will be able to shop for storage supplies and get that closet remodeled! If it is a large walk-in closet, it is as simple as purchasing supplies and installing them. However for a smaller closet, you may have to get a little more creative. A small bookshelf works wonders in small closets because it is short, yet it holds drawers for all your things. You can get cardboard inserts for the drawers where you organize jewelry, accessories, socks, scarves, ties, belts, and any other smaller items that need to be put away.
