Bathroom Remodeling Costs Can Be Expensive

The average small bathroom home renovation cost is a little under $16,000. However, most homeowners can only expect to see a payback of a little over $10,200 on that project if they choose to sell their home within a year of completing the project. Of course, this is based on the estimate of renovating a standard size bathroom of around 35 square feet. If you choose to renovate a larger or more elaborate space, then you would expect that your expenses would increase far more noticeably than the amount listed here. There would be the need for more tile, floor, and wall coverings, as well as a greater number of lighting fixtures. The labor costs for plumbing behind the walls in the area would also be substantially greater.

Homeowners have to factor in additional costs besides these, however. The individual would have to deal with the additional costs of cabinets, shelving, mirrors, and other amenities that would be a necessity. Upgrading the plumbing fixtures is almost always an additional cost. The starting point for the price associated with this type of remodel on a larger scale would be at a price substantially higher than the average cost for a small bathroom. According to Remodeling Magazine, adding a bathroom may cost around $38,000 with a return on the investment only adding up to around a little more than half of the amount.

Although it’s impossible to guess what type of bathroom renovation most homeowners have in mind, experts suggest that they should plan on spending between $20,000 and $30,000 depending on what they would like to change or add to the space. The pricing here can vary greatly depending on the amount of space present and the size of the bathroom when it is finished. Experts suggest that homeowners should do some research to find out about the type and quality of bathroom fixtures that they would prefer for their renovation. Once they have found these items and know their cost, they can begin to estimate some of the expectations that they can incur. They also have the opportunity to contact a contractor and have them come in to provide an estimate based on the changes that they would like to make during the renovation.

What many homeowners don’t realize is that the costs for bathroom remodeling can build up quite quickly. Although someone may plan to have a budget for their remodeling project, they may discover that they quickly reach the their goal for the budget much sooner than they had expected -- and that the work may not even be completely finished by this point. For this reason, experts suggest that homeowners should seek to find contractors that are open to working on a variety of budget and payment plans. Options like these can make it easier to manage the cost of a bathroom remodeling project without making it seem as if all of the money is going into items that may not be needed in the long run.
