Tips on Renovating Your Home’s Landscape and Design

Landscaping can quickly deteriorate without the proper upkeep. In addition, styles of plants and shrubbery can become outdated or just plain outgrown. The spring is a wonderful time of year to start remodeling projects, especially ones that take you outside to enjoy nature's regrowth. You can create more inviting front of the house and back of the house landscapes just by getting some new ideas in outdoor design and finding inspiration among nurseries for newer plants that may brighten up your home's yard. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Remove Visual Blocks

The first that you want to do when you renovate outdoor space is remove any plants or structures that are blocking the view of your home or the view of your natural surroundings. For instance, if you have several trees in your back yard, think about cutting a few of these trees down to allow in more light and also reveal a better view. You should be careful not to remove trees, however, if they are important to your home's design, such as if they help to shade parts of your home.

Fire and Water Themes

Landscape designer Ernie Reynolds suggests that fire and water themes are very appealing for outdoor areas. You can use this combination to add in stone pathways, outdoor fireplaces or fire pits, fountains and a pool area to create a more relaxing and inviting backyard. Fireplaces and outdoor living areas are especially good to have in the colder months and can provide you with some warmth when you want to enjoy the outdoors.

Go Inside to Find Inspiration

What are some things that you admire about the inside of your home? If you really love the kitchen, you can create outdoor cooking spaces, such as a grilling station on a deck or even a luxurious outdoor kitchen area. This is actually becoming a big trend for home remodel projects, and they add a lot of value to a home with a nice backyard area that includes a pool or sweeping views. From pizza ovens and refrigerators to private outdoor showers and warming drawers, you can add a lot of different accessories to your outdoor space.

Using Walkways

Both in the front and back of the house, walkways provide an interesting way to create a path through your new landscape designs. Whether you have a lot of new hard scapes or just a beautiful garden, you incorporate a lot of different things with different walkways. You can use stone or brick to lay a path and also plant different focal points along the path. You can even incorporate sitting areas such as a bench or tree swing, depending on the expanse of your back or front yard.

Color Plants and Lush Shrubs

You definitely can go overboard with planting different flowers and trees. However, some flowers really make a lawn pop and give it some natural grace. In general, you want to combine flowers and foliage to make a colorful yet varied space on your lawn. Playing with light and dark colors can give you a tropical theme around outdoor figure points, such as a pool or sitting area. Spring blooms are probably the most beautiful plants to incorporate into your front of the house gardens, so pick the right colors and shapes that fit your aesthetic.
