Five Ways to Personalize Kitchen Remodel

It's always a good time to remodel your kitchen, but springtime sends homeowners into a frenzy of cleanup and renovation. How do you make your kitchen remodel different? It's simple. There are just a few ways that you can change your countertops, sinks, appliances and cabinets to be different, while not paying a fortune or getting too matchy-matchy. If you have some strange materials in your kitchen, or you just don't like the way it feels, there are some simple ways to personalize and fix up the best meal spot in the house.

1. Mix and Match Styles, Shapes and Colors

So do cabinets really have a shape? Of course! What about refrigerators? Well, perhaps. Let's think about the traditional shapes you usually see in your kitchen. There are a lot of boxy and sharp edges, maybe a few curves, but you should try to incorporate a bit of both in each. In addition, colors are going to be a big drive for your kitchen décor. You want to connect different items but with a common theme.

2. Pay Attention to Geometry

You can use accent pieces to really change the shapes and lines that you create in your kitchen. Like a breakfast bar is rectangular, but stools with circular seats can contrast that. Square vases can offset circular tables and sleek patterns can add some quirky designs to your backsplashes and wallpaper. You also can choose different types of sinks and appliances that are funky and come with innovative or stylish looks.

3. Changing Your Cabinets

You can really personalize your kitchen by changing your cabinets, and you don't have to remove everything to make a statement. You can just replace half of them, or just replace the doors. Look for places that you can add metal or different colors to spice if up and make a dramatic change. Using glass doors, you can add these to some of your cabinets, even matching the trim on the wood. This will give you a new look and you don't have to pay a lot to make the upgrade.

4. These Countertops! My God!

You ever have someone just go ballistic over your kitchen countertops? Well do you want to? Well, think about ways that you can change your countertop material, possibly upgrading to quartz island topper or granite, or you may even want to consider something extravagant like lava stone. Yea, it's a little strange, but it's actually quite smooth and durable to work with.

5. Don't Get Caught Up In the Table and Chairs

You don't have to keep a table and chairs the same color or even the same style. There are all kinds of ways to personalize and make the kitchen table a funky representation that still goes along with the theme of your kitchen. You can have a dark wood table with white painted chairs, or you can paint the chairs all different colors and go around a rustic wood table. Either way, you don't have to even keep the table and chairs together if you want to save some space. You can also re-upholster chairs to give them a new face.
